Switch Team Blood Donations

Anything for a free feed. Six Switch team members headed down to the Collins St blood donation centre last week as a part of Switch’s regular volunteering outings.

Did you know that a single car accident victim can require as many as 100 pints of blood? For those of you who are beer drinkers, you will know that that is a lot of blood!

It equates to approximately 100 individual blood donations, with the average donation being one pint per person. A regular blood transfusion requires approximately three pints.

Only 1 in 30 Australians are blood donors, although 1 in 3 of us will require a blood donation.

The actual blood donation typically takes less than 10-12 minutes, and we have been told that a mosquito bite has been proven to be more painful.

If you need any more reasons to donate, there are free refreshments afterwards including tea/coffee, cakes, donuts, chocolates and milkshakes.

Of course, not everyone can donate but for those who can we encourage you to please do so as it can save a life.
